Technical Sales Engineer Industrial Data Communications Job Specification

Job Title:      Technical Sales Engineer –Industrial Data Communications.

Reports to:   Sales Manager


 To build on present business whilst creating and developing additional opportunities.

To achieve sales and revenue targets as agreed with the company.

To sell total product range within the geographical target area, building and maintaining strong working relationships with the key-decision makers within customer organisations which will include end-users and OEMs.

To identify, source and convert new opportunities into sales orders, while maintaining a thorough watching brief and follow-up procedure for potential opportunities.

To be responsible for contract and price negotiations relating to geographical area.

To organise, plan and implement in-house exhibitions and presentations with key account customers.

Where and when necessary to provide support nationwide for business.

To actively seek feedback on competitor activities, pricing etc and provide this information to relevant manager for action.

To actively seek feedback on customer requirements and product development, and to convey this information to relevant manager for action.

To liaise and work with in-house staff and departments to build and maintain close working relationships.

To build and maintain customer records and databases, attend regular sales meetings (monthly) and to provide clear and concise activity reports and forecasts as and when required by the company.



Knowledge of PLCs, Drives and similar technology, with knowledge of low power radio, industrial Ethernet, modems or field bus technology an advantage.

Demonstrable evidence of personal success and proven track record in the technical sales environment, preferably gained working in an external sales role with exposure to comms issues.

Practical experience of working from home.




 Highly self-motivated and self-disciplined, with the ability to interface with all levels of personnel.

Able to work autonomously but also as a part of a team.

Customer orientated, commercially minded and entrepreneurial.

Well organised, with good planning skills, but flexible and adaptable to situations.

Attention to detail, with strong analytical and conceptual skills.

 Capable of making a case clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing

 Engineering Qualification (Electronic/Electrical as preference)
